Payment & Insurance
At Beacon Hill Therapy, we believe that meaningful therapy begins with a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, privacy, and individualized care. We know that questions about insurance and payment are an important part of choosing a therapist, and we do our best to make this process as transparent and straightforward as possible.
FAQs
-
Beacon Hill Therapy is an out-of-network practice, which means that our therapists do not participate directly with insurance companies and we do not bill insurance on your behalf.
Clients pay for sessions directly at the time of service. However, many clients are still able to receive reimbursement from their insurance plans through out-of-network mental health benefits.
We are happy to provide the documentation (called a Superbill) needed to help you seek reimbursement.
-
A Superbill is a detailed receipt for psychotherapy services that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Superbills typically include:
Dates of service
Session fees
Provider credentials and license information
Diagnosis codes required by insurance companies
Procedure codes for therapy sessions
Many insurance plans will reimburse a portion of therapy costs when services are provided by an out-of-network clinician. Reimbursement amounts vary depending on your plan.
Clients can usually submit Superbills through their insurance company’s online portal or mobile app.
-
Many PPO and POS insurance plans include out-of-network mental health coverage. This means your insurance company may reimburse part of the cost of therapy even though your therapist is not in-network.
A common process looks like this:
You pay for your session directly to Beacon Hill Therapy.
We provide you with a Superbill.
You submit the Superbill to your insurance company.
Your insurance company reimburses you according to your plan’s out-of-network benefits.
Some clients receive substantial reimbursement for sessions, while others may receive partial reimbursement or apply costs toward an out-of-network deductible.
Before beginning therapy, we encourage clients to contact their insurance company and ask questions such as:
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
What percentage of psychotherapy costs are reimbursed?
Is there an annual deductible?
How many therapy sessions are covered?
Do I need prior authorization?
How do I submit Superbills?
-
We understand that this is an important question. Our decision not to participate directly with insurance networks is intentional and rooted in our commitment to providing thoughtful, high-quality care.
Working outside of insurance networks allows our therapists to:
Prioritize privacy and confidentiality
Insurance companies often require therapists to submit diagnoses, treatment plans, and ongoing clinical information in order to authorize care. By remaining out-of-network, we are able to keep your treatment more private and reduce unnecessary disclosure of sensitive personal information.
Provide individualized treatment
Insurance companies may place limitations on session frequency, length of treatment, or types of therapy covered. We believe therapy should be guided by clinical needs rather than insurance requirements.
Focus on quality over volume
Insurance reimbursement rates often require clinicians to maintain very large caseloads. Remaining independent allows our therapists to work more intentionally, maintain smaller caseloads, and provide highly personalized care.
Offer specialized expertise
Beacon Hill Therapy clinicians provide treatment informed by advanced training, consultation, and evidence-based approaches. Our practice model allows therapists the flexibility to dedicate time to ongoing professional development and individualized treatment planning.
-
Many clients find that investing in therapy has a meaningful and lasting impact on their relationships, emotional wellbeing, self-understanding, and overall quality of life.
We also recognize that therapy is a financial commitment. Our team is always happy to discuss fees openly and help prospective clients understand their options before beginning treatment.
-
Beacon Hill Therapy accepts major credit cards, HSA cards, and FSA cards.
Payment is due at the time of service unless otherwise arranged.
-
While we cannot guarantee reimbursement or communicate directly with insurance companies on behalf of clients, we are happy to provide Superbills and help answer general questions about the out-of-network reimbursement process.
